BUSTED!

Hey, few minutes ago, the Binxxx server behaved strangely. When Fabien, founder of Binxxx project set up his service a few days ago, it was an instant success:

Real time indexing of binary news enable you to find easily any package sent on USENET, which is shitloads. This, associated with current binary news reading tools - nzbget, speeds up download up to a CD in 4 minutes of less.

Giganews opened all their NNTP servers just for What The Hack people, so that we can get blazing fast downloads.

Well... when Fabien ssh'd into the binxxx server, a password prompt was asked. Weird! SSH keys were enabled, and still a password. He went on with NOC to spot the spoofed ARP switch port. From an Ethernet MAC address to the tent 3, port 119, it was an easy track.

The whole Net and Binxxx team arrived in Tent 3, already a guy was closing his laptop and leaving. Well... let's be social engineers here. Hey, wait a sec! This was indeed the guy connected on port 119, having a catch-all-passwords ssh server, and trying to hack into the service.

Funny thing to try to hack a useful service, Binxxx is useful and well... he recognized what he had done was silly and not good to the community. The learning experience of what the hack will be beneficial for everybody, especially him.

Peace,
