new announcement
Thank you and your word of goodbye
I see you've updated the main page, I've just updated the article. I think Radio Subether can be removed from Main Page. I'm off to buy groceries, you have fun with your parents and the announcement mailings as soon as you have the time. Cheers! :-)
Slides
Great idea to send out an email. If you think I can help in any way, just let me know. I am willing to help with this.
Mean time I will look around on the wiki and see if there are any other slides that we haven't found yet ;-)

Do you know of a way to give the WhatTheSlides & WhatTheBook page a more permenant location on the frontpage. It gets drowned in the other items that are publish over time.

File Naming
uhm I noticed that you uploaded a file called "What the hack.pdf" for the slides of fun and mayhen with rfid. since file names on the wiki are unique and basicly unsorted.. this might not be a good name for it.. and even confusing? and could possible easily be overwritten by say a pdf about what the hack itself. or the logo/poster (one of which has the same name on the old website)

Agreed, we should rename or naming the files of the slides in a fixed format. My suggestion would be: wth-slides-[name of talk].pdf. Now the big question is can we somehow rename those files, without uploading the files again. If so, please explain.

Hm. Pro of that idea is, that we do not want to have files with the same name but different content over-written. Sebastian, I did not get a message when uploading, that I'm about to overwrite something. Are there notifications on the Wiki for that case? Never had this prob so far. The Con is, that we can not change the upload page because it is a "special page" that can't be modified in any way. people would need the info on how to name different pdfs (it might not only be speakers that upload files!) there. A precise regulation on how to name them is not to set into practice, as the wiki is free. from my point of view is the wiki for most people confusing enough at the beginning, so overregulating is counterproductive. I put the advice to name the slide-files "wth-slides-[name of talk].pdf" on WhatTheSlides and maybe send out a mail again to all the speakers (can't stand flooding mailboxes for every little thing though). the renaming of uploaded files is impossible, as far as i can see it. The what_the_hack.pdf is a file I got with this name - my mistake that I didn't rename it when converting to a pdf. :(

hmm technically it is possible to change the content of a special page.. but would require direct database interaction. when you're trying to overwrite a file, you do get a warning though..
