The MILKline between Latvia and Holland
From What The Wiki?!
The MILK-Project
Markus, a programmer from Amsterdamsoftware.com made the audience @ tent 3 familiar with a project of artist Esther Polak. The GPS-inspired MILK-Project followed a european dairy transportation scheme from the udder of the (Latvian) cow, to the mouth of the (Dutch) consumer. It is a direct offspring of the "AmsterdamREALTIME" project: 10 participants were equipped with GPS-device and mapped the city of Amsterdam en route of their movements.
With MILK Esther Polak extends the original idea: She explores the way of a dairy product in the newly grown European Community. As well she provides a mean to have the particpants tell and visualize their stories. So she documents their way of life. First, participants were followed for a day using the GPS-system. After that the GPS-tracks were visualized. Then the reactions of the participants and the public were recorded.
The MILK-Project will be awarded the Golden Nica at the "Ars Electronica 2005"
