Talk:Security duty roster

From What The Wiki?!

let's use the talk page for discussions, questions, etc :) about the security duty roster. --Tw 21 July 2005 00:01 (CEST) ACK BugBlue 21 July 2005 00:21 (CEST)

Allowed to fill in?BugBlue 21 July 2005 00:00 (CEST)

Not yet, we are not sure yet about the hours, I suggested shorter shifts during the day.. --Tw 21 July 2005 00:03 (CEST)

Should be strange nerds who want to be woken at about 6 in the morning. You can barely party and sleep than. Maybe better to switch that point to about 8 o'clock? BugBlue 21 July 2005 00:21 (CEST)

mhhh i like 2200-0600 as it would be very hard (for me) to sleep untill 0000 and then get up to do the rest of the night (just my point after 7 years of shiftwork). it also would allow me to do some transport duty before 2200 and get some sleep after 0600 until the first lectures start that i am intrested in. perhaps we can make shorter dayshifts to make the arrangments with the lectures easier and make long nightshifts that keep the "partydecision" simple (to drink or not to drink) Kye 21 July 2005 08:29 (CEST)

It looks nice now. Just 4 'normal' shifts and 1 graveyard. Graveyard is also really grave... :-( But nevertheless I like that BugBlue 21 July 2005 12:16 (CEST)

I think 2 teams should be on active guard duty during the graveyard shift. That would make 1 team for guarding the gates and 1 team patrolling the campsite. mvdlaar 21 July 13:00 (CEST)

I think we should split all the slots into 4 hour shifts! 12 till 8am!?! That's mad! I'll do 12 till 4, not a problem, but till 8? All the fun starts just two hours later, so when would you sleep? It's easy to sign for two four hour shifts, rather than getting stuck with 8 straight hours if you want - Nigel 22/07 18:52

The idea behind the long nightshift is because the idea was that if people wouldn't show up for the 4am shift, we couldn't find them, or we had to wake them up. Ever seen a nerd wake up at 4 am? right... --Tw 22 July 2005 21:26 (CEST)

Hand them a Jolt... Also, since almost every lecture/workshop is a 1 hour slot, a lot of the things I really want to see are blocked/blocking each other. I'm working out a spreadsheet to try to sort this, but obviously, better to do three hours security than none, right? - Nigel 22/07 19:24

Have you ever seen a geek at 8am either? Seriously, missing an entire night is silly. The military generally do 1 hour each through 8 men through the night (in very cold weather even less) so that everyone still gets most of the sleep they need, and can function. Looking at this, sun rise is at 4:48am and sunset at 8:47pm, so anyone trying to sneak in will be best trying at around 4am. I don't know the layout, though... As a second note, I think during the day, the security slots should be either one or two hours each, as I'm coming to go to the lectures and teach, not walk a field all night! I want to go to the lectures I want to see (several of which already collide) which then stops me doing a 4 or 8 hour shift due to 1 hour of lecture. Also, I think it will put a lot of people off helping, since 4 hours later, the people you were with before shift start are likely to have gone elsewhere, etc. but after an odd hour, they are likely to still be drinking beer in the same place. 4 or 8 hours is also a huge commitment. - Nigel 23/07 10:44 & 14:48

Who's Vynka? I see this name in the roster, but not in the volunteer list. Whose handle is it? Martijn van der Heide 22 July 19:51 (CEST)

Vynka is Bert Kiers and he is on the list --Tw 22 July 2005 21:26 (CEST)

He we're not a millitary organisation. And doing shifts from 1 hour is pointless. That's almost the time you need to walk arround the terrain. You can't fix anything in that time.

In my opinion in the day 4 hours (ohw damn you can't follow lectures, watch them online later or don't subscribe for that shift) is pretty good. And it's really called 'graveyard' since it somehow sucks. On the other hand: you don't have to *walk* or stand 8 hours like you've to in the army. We also don't work with weapons (unless you can count your light as a weapon) so being 'less' (but still very fast) resposible isn't any problem.

I really don't like to be woken for 1 hour in the night because I need an half hour to wake up, half an hour to get to some point somewhere and the same afterwards. 1 hour shift will cost me 3 hours. That's almost half the night. Than better 1 graveyard shift during the whole event.

And yes it's a commitment to subscribe for a long shift, on the other side you have plenty opportunities to meet new friends (I accidently wrote meat new friends...) and a real good time since people think you are important, but threath you as friend.... (Matter of fact: you are a friend, not really more important than others IMHO)

So please don't start with 1 hour shifts... I have to write my name 8 times in the wiki and search every hour a new friend to wander arround with....

Ohw and since you are with more people it's sometimes possible to switch jobs for an lecture with someone else, but don't make that the default.

I'm really in favor of setting up 4 hour shifts instead of 8. I'll do two from 4:00-8:00. Remco is the one who decides this; Remco what do you think? kajurria 23 July 2005 18:24 (CEST)

kajurria, I'll twin with you by doing 12 till 4. BugBlue, the one hour shifts are during the DAY, when we will be up and doing stuff anyway. Nighttime would be 4 hour shifts. As for just watching the 'casts afterwards... why spend a fortune coming then? I'm coming to interact! -Soapy 23 July 2005 19:16 (CEST)

Hope I haven't upset anyone! (Remco!) I've split the times down to 2 and 4 hour shifts, and duplicated the names for each time slot into both the new slots, then added myself in. BugBlue, you don't have to add your name 8 times anywhere, I carefully copied your slots in for you! (and everyone else listed) Please have a check, I've not made any typos, but, for example, kujurria, you can now remove part of a night shift, as you wanted. Hopefully more people will enter time slots now! - Soapy 23 July 2005 19:49 (CEST)

Well done Soapy! -kajurria 23 July 2005 21:01 (CEST)

You didn't upset me, but I don't like the changes you made.. We stick with my plan, sorry. I am present at wth already by the way, and I have been recognized by Kye already :) Tw 23 July 2005 22:21 (CEST)

Do we have a lair yet? The location of the team isn't filled in yet... Martijn van der Heide 23 July 2005 22:16 (CEST)

Oh, so Remco decided no 4 hour shifts? Who's going to change the schedule back then...? kajurria 23 Juli 2005 22:18 (CEST)

Well, that messes that up then. I am not about to do an 8 hour overnight shift - sorry, but as BugBlue said, it's not the army! As for the daytime slots, well, I have to do three 1 hour slots with the lockpicking team, plus the times for the Dutch Open championship, which I don't yet know. I have to be able to function during the day! Also, I can't spare four daytime hours for a simgle slot. If no-one is going to do the shifts, then what happens? Anyway, if you revert the wiki, it will remove my slots automatically... - Soapy

Hmmm... there still seems to be a distinct lack of subscriptions for the various shifts (either scheme). Where are all those volunteers hiding at?? Martijn van der Heide 25 July 2005 22:05
