Design guidelines

Quality

  • High quality T-shirts.
  • Most printed with silk screen print in advance, some made with high quality transfer print at the spot.
  • All sizes and colors available. (Babe, S, M, L, XL, XXL? XXXL is a must, some hackers get BIG)

Your Design

  • All designs must be in EPS format! If you have the possibility, please use illustrator 10.0 for the fonts. if not possible, we will help you with that.
  • Please inculde to your design the color of t-shirt that you could imagine with it.
  • Designs? More please! You can upload to the wiki here or send them to the mailinglist.

Timeline

  • The T-shirt-Design project is in its final phase: There will be a meeting on Saturday, 9th July, to sort out the designs we have on here, but the final decision will be made in the core-organisation meeting on monday, 11th July, so that means that Monday afternoon is the very last chance to hand in your design. Around the 12th/13th we will hand over our designs and T-shirt-wishes to the T-shirt-Printers.

Slogans

(shifted from the main design-page by Bine 20:43, 30 Jun 2005 (CEST)

  • T-shirt Slogans: "SECURITY is an illusion - What the Hack, 28 - 31 July 2005" (c) Hanno --Bine
  • I think this is a bad slogan. WTH has mostly nothing todo with security and far more with privacy, just look at the wth poster, the text posted by rop on the wth.org website and the speaker program, this slogan does -not- cover the event as we have it now. In 1990 this would have been a perfect slogan.... I would prefer a more laidback relaxed slogan. -- Aldert Hazenberg 15:54, 1 Jul 2005 (CEST)
  • the idea was, to print it on the back of t-shirts, with SECURITY big and fat and the illusion part tiny below. as a joke for pictures on the campsite - geez, so much security. well. erm. i found hanno's idea cool. -- Bine 17:44, 1 Jul 2005 (CEST)
  • "PRIVACY is an illusion - What the Hack, 28 - 31 July 2005" -- then again, we may know security isn't the main thing, the media doesn't, as of yet. Bounce
  • FYI, by law in NL you cannot 'pretend' to be security if you are not a certified security person. i.e. the security people at WTH should have 'toezichthouder' on their thsirts and not 'security' thinking of that the Big Fat Security on WTH tshirts would also be a bad idea as 'now' people wont see easily who the security crew is at WTH or might mix things up (confusion factor). Aldert Hazenberg 18:13, 1 Jul 2005 (CEST)
  • T-Shirt Slogans: "WTH?" --Bine
  • I myself am not so much for the idea to put a questionmark behind the 'name'. It is more a What The Hack! (positive) than a What The Hack ? (unsure) type of message we try to convey to the world... Also if you read the wht.otg site you see we use an '!' in the logo and you also dont notice any '?' in the text rop made... --Aldert Hazenberg
  • There are "WTF?" t-shirts, so it is not really a very original idea to make a persiphlage with "WTH?"-T-shirts. But the exclamation mark is sure better, i agree. Thought of a fat simple font "WTH!" and below, small "What The Hack, 28-31 July 2005". Most people say, that this simple text-shirt is a must. --Bine
  • for a T-shirt I'd say got for the ! thing and something graphical, text only isn't going to attract much people? --Sebastian
  • I want sheep and and a ! --Gramels 12:53, 30 Jun 2005 (CEST)
  • How about a combination of the ? and the !, to finally make "WTH?!" -- WebSpider 22:04, 30 Jun 2005 (CEST)
  • I also dislike the ?, even if followed by !. I'm not even sure I like !, as too many things already have !s in their names, and I always found that rather stupid. Still, ! is much better than any of ? and ?!. -- Juerd 18:29, 1 Jul 2005 (CEST)
  • T-Shirt Slogans: "Meeting Sharing Learning" Just a thought... -- LadyFrost 19:26, 1 Jul 2005 (CEST)

"What The Fuck" Condoms

  • How about Condoms with "What The Fuck"? --Bine
  • Funny ! (again the '!' instead of an '?' ) there is a condom shop in center Adam that does know how to get things like this 'done' :)) --Aldert Hazenberg 15:49, 28 Jun 2005 (CEST)
  • Hehe, but this questionmark belongs to the sentence that starts with the "How" and not to the text on the condoms, aldert! ;) --Bine
  • I'll see if I can collect some info on this. --Djinh 09:18, 29 Jun 2005 (CEST)
  • I know that youre a geek and youll probably end up making water-bombs out of them [thanks to the w00tstock wiki] --BugBlue 09:23, 29 Jun 2005 (CEST)
  • Whatever gets you going ;) --Djinh 09:48, 29 Jun 2005 (CEST)
  • ok guys, who of you is going to investigate which company could produce them and how much it would cost? Bine 22:18, 30 Jun 2005 (CEST)
  • Laughter kills sex DWizzy 03:46, 1 Jul 2005 (CEST)
  • I contacted "De Condomerie" in Amsterdam. They'll send me some info. I'll pass it on when I get it. --Djinh 17:43, 1 Jul 2005 (CEST)
  • Ask them for size CAS 7E :) --Juerd 18:34, 1 Jul 2005 (CEST)
  • excellent, smithers ;) -- Bine 17:45, 1 Jul 2005 (CEST)

Dymaxion Map T-Shirt

http://wiki.whatthehack.org/WTW/index.php/Image:Dymax.gif

This design reminds me of the ThinkGeek "You are here" pointing to our solar system in the Milky Way, with a twist.

The Dymaxion map was designed to overcome the limitation of other maps with political biases. Bucky Fuller's idea was that in a time where we travel between continents by plane, the important thing to render precisely was the land, not the ocean. This vision allows the least possible distortion in land-mass and land distances. Also, Bucky Fuller explicitely stated that this projection would not be used to mark countries or other political boundaries: on the contrary, he wanted human beings to realize that "Our Spaceship Earth" is one island in the ocean.

We're all in the same ship and some want to make us believe it's full of borders that we cannot cross (without a biometric passport). Some want to make us believe that There Is No Alternative (Margaret Thatcher in the 80s) and some seem to be happy with a modern and pervasive USSR-replacement called Terrorism, which any one of us (citizens) might be part of, hence the security measures, etc. Focusing on FUD avoids thinking. This design comes very close to the sheeps image. -- Hellekin

I like this one buZz ..

shirt-3

Wow, http://wiki.whatthehack.org/WTW/index.php/Image:Shirt-3.gif I like this one -a lot-, it is a txt shirt concept,
it is a nice color on black what makes it nice to look at and that is realy Cool to me, I like the font a lot.
Totally geeky/nerdy shirt I would love to have ! Aldert Hazenberg 11:51, 29 Jun 2005 (CEST)

sorry, don't see the relevance.. it's not bad.. but I see 0.0 link to the event Sebastian 13:24, 30 Jun 2005 (CEST)

It has the name of the event on it :) Aldert Hazenberg 15:55, 30 Jun 2005 (CEST)

unplugged

http://wiki.whatthehack.org/WTW/index.php/Image:Unplugged.gif I do not see this as very 'relevant' we have a 1 GB uplink and everybody needs his brain plugged in during wth, due to all the interresting lectures.... It still is a very beautiful design. Aldert Hazenberg 09:57, 30 Jun 2005 (CEST) Aldert Hazenberg 09:57, 30 Jun 2005 (CEST)

I'd like to see this one with an RJ45 connector instead :)

Juerd 15:45, 29 Jun 2005 (CEST)

Hehehe, but again we -are- a very networked event... Aldert Hazenberg 15:54, 30 Jun 2005 (CEST)

matrix

I like matrix, tough i would replace the '?' for the '!', I really think '?' is 'wrong' :) http://wiki.whatthehack.org/WTW/index.php/Image:Matrix.gif Aldert Hazenberg 09:59, 30 Jun 2005 (CEST)

like it, although a bit unresty Sebastian 13:23, 30 Jun 2005 (CEST)

Sheep T-shirt

Sheep T-shirt, I thought I'd use the sheep for a nice shirt design..

The sheep are dead.
No doubt you can bring your own sheep thsirts or create a sheep design yourself... Aldert Hazenberg 13:13, 30 Jun 2005 (CEST)

so what is wrong with the sheep design? Sebastian 13:21, 30 Jun 2005 (CEST)

I want sheep (alive ones preferred) --Gramels 13:43, 30 Jun 2005 (CEST)

I prefer them dead and grilled for dinner :) Aldert Hazenberg 15:51, 30 Jun 2005 (CEST)

Sheep good. Sheep on shirt, sheep sliced on bread, sheep on a spit, sheep in my boots. More sheep wantink! Don't repress the sheep! Protect the sheep from the establishment! Come see the sheep inherent in the establishment!

I'd like something visually compact on a shirt. A spaceman, sheep, heck, a fish, a rubberduckie. Not something vaguely abstract or abstractly vague. Bounce 16:15, 1 Jul 2005 (CEST)

The Shirts Wallpaper: [1] (1024x768)

More sheep wallpaper. --Gramels 22:21, 11 Jul 2005 (CEST)

Heineken

When you upload something, you have to check a box to promise that whatever you upload is legal to use on this wiki. I doubt that Heineken has given permission to use their bottle design. I could be wrong, of course, but if Heineken has indeed approved, it would be good to state that somewhere along with the image. Without the permission of Heineken, we can of course not use this image for shirts.

Juerd 16:12, 28 Jun 2005 (CEST)

I agree. Also we serve Brand Beer at the What The Bar, using their bottle would be more appropiate, tough nobody will recognize it :) Aldert Hazenberg 15:53, 30 Jun 2005 (CEST)

Oh, and I am very much against Comic Sans MS and alike fonts ;)

Juerd 16:13, 28 Jun 2005 (CEST)

The shirt should be OK - it's a parody / fair use and no money making. Sn 23:05, 30 Jun 2005 (CEST)

@Juerd, you're right, i was a bit sleepy when i made it :P . I'll change it today! And make some changes to it. Hope you will like the V2 ;) . Also, i think there should be no problem with heineken. Thousands of people buy shirts with bush and beer, a newspaper or whatever on it. Never seen anyone getting sued for making such a shirt. And who's going to sue a innocent little boy like me? :P

Edit: I've finished the V2 Version. It's@TShirts. In my eyes this is MUCH better then the V1 version of it. Hope you like it.

T-bluegreen

I like T-Bluegreen http://wiki.whatthehack.org/WTW/index.php/Image:T-bluegreen.jpg but (practical 'objection') I can imagine that the hammock is really difficult to see and print as it has so muhc details on such a small space.

I like (Juerd)

unplugged (brain with plug), shirt2 (colourful and wavey), shirt3 (retro, yellow on dark)

Juerd 13:42, 30 Jun 2005 (CEST)

Black shirt / style idea

One of my colleagues came up with this idea for a black shirt and style. He made it quite a while ago and submitted it, but it seems to have gotten lost somewere along the line, and was never on the wiki either, so here it is (again). He can get shirts printed cheap and in big quantities too.

Timo 18:47, 7 Jul 2005 (CEST)

Oh, i like this one too! a bit hard (black-white-red), but it's got something... -- Bine 10:51, 8 Jul 2005 (CEST)

A few different colours, same theme: black_shirt_style_idea_colours.pdf

All this is of course available in eps format too. -- 11:39, 8 Jul 2005 (CEST)

Looks interesting, what is it? -- Sn

Looks fine, but is the projector burning, or is it a kleenex box? -- Metageek 13:51, 13 Jul 2005 (CEST)

Like it.. btw it's a security camera right? like the idea.. design... as for shirt.. maybe center it? what about a slogan under it? or on the back ?

I like the black/red/white btw.. although wouldn't mind the blue on the globe.. but seems like a waste of ink :) Sebastian 22:13, 13 Jul 2005 (CEST)
