Introduction

Last 6th July, the European Parliament has rejected with a broad majority (680 over 732 MEPs presents) the directive proposal on "computer implemented inventions", aka software patent directive. The directive project has generated a lot of controversy since the proposal in february 2002 by the European Commission. From the mouth of Members of Parliament themselves, the European Parliament has never seen such intense lobbying for a piece of legislation.
