Rinke Hoekstra (1965) finished his study biology in 1983, after which he worked forseveral environmental organisations. In 1992 he joined the dutch NGO Strohalm,working on the relation between economy and environment & poverty, on issues likeecological tax reform en community currency systems - systems in which people createtheir own kind of money. In 1994 he founded the Local Exchange & Trade System inGroningen, now one of the bigger LETS in the country. Since 1999 he is working oncommunity currency systems for strohalm, and connected with the software projectenabling such systems via the internet.
