Life as an Uber Volunteer
From What The Wiki?!
Mad Dogs WhatTheGlen and EnglishPete
How many times have you been passed by a mad englishman on a push bike shouting "Good Morning", Quite often I would imagine. In fact, they are even worse when they're out in pairs......
Our resident Uber Volunteers, WhatTheGlen and EnglishPete are quite possibly two of the maddest volunteers on the site and very probably the two hardest working people here. Though there's been an English presence on site since Tuesday the 19th, this little article is only dedicated to there heroic actions of Thursday, the first official day of the event.
Early morning (thats about 7am for them) saw the pair of them moving around the site in a load english manner calling their trademark "Good Morning" to all they saw. The first couple of hours was spent greeting people and helping prepare for the opening Keynote Speach. During the keynote speach they activley filmed everything and helped with the survey by filming the responces.
Following the opening speachs, they split for the first time of the day and EnglishPete headed off to do his one hour daily radio show. WhatTheGlen was then seen stalking the POC tent ensuring that people respected POC and helped them get out of bed, and when they rejoined they continued in their cause to "Make WTH Theirs!"
In a moment of complete genius, Eric asked EnglishPete to source some volunteers to help speakers getting ready. Not wanting to be known as someone who can not get things done, EnglishPete went over to SubEther Radio and added an announcement to his random hourly news. Then, once joined with WhatTheGlen, the pair of them proceeded to grab every humonoid walking along the road and talked them into volunteering. We are not sure if Rop and Eric realised how powerful this pair are, but they must have been surprised by the volume of people this pair can re-direct.
The afternoon saw EnglishPete and WhatTheGlen moving in and out of POC, SubEther Radio and the majority of Talks recording and making notes for WhatTheNews. As if they were not doing enough already, the pair of them took on the challenge of fixing the flooding showers. Alas, when they arrived the toilets and showers had not just backed up, but the poo holding tank had flooded over the field too. In true British tradition, they rolled up their trousers and got stuck in to fix it. That was at around 15:00. By 22:00 they had changed over all the gas cylinders, got the hot water running and retired to see another talk.
By then end of their day, which we beleive to be aorund 04:00 or 05:00 they were indeed looking a little tired and ready for some sleep. Crazily, by 08:00 on the 29th, they had been up, restored hot water to the organisations showers, installed tripwire on the Police Toilets and wrapped the Police Lorry up with safety tape.
Is there no place safe from these mad two? Is there anyone who does not know who they are?..........
