From What The Wiki?!

Looking for javascript expert and actionscript guru

  • I'm looking for a Javascript Expert who can help us making a non-flash version of the map!
  • For parsing the xml I would like to get in contact with a Flash Actionscript Guru. I'm probably able to do it myself, but I have not played with actionscript for some time now, besides that it's much more fun to do things together :-)

Alex is helping us with the Wiki! Thx!

About the map

This idea started after seeing the Autocad drawing from the event terain. First I begin with making the roads and the tents etc. in Flash. After showing it to some people I got real positive reactions. But the first map was to basic, I decided to add some functionality (see todo). I hope this helps people to find there way around at What The Hack. If you would like to help or have cool ideas, please let me know!

Todo list

  • Search function for villages, where the found village(s) will blink or show an arrow above them
We are probably using XPath functions from Neeld Tanksley, curently working on a new beta ;-)
  • Using GPS points to position the villages on the map, in cooperation with Koen from Whatthemap.
Koen fixed it, today i'm going to get the positions of all villages!
  • Showing the current and next upcoming events (keynotes/workshops) in the main tents
Willem has made a perl script wich uses the wiki schedule to generate a xml file with all events in the main tents.
I asked Tim Pritlove if we can make some kind of link (xml feed?) between the map and the great Pentabarf confernce planning system (used for What The Hack 2005.
  • Showing more details of the villages, for example getting the latest news (by xml) from the wiki pages
Alex is looking at this posibility right now :)
  • Make personal note's on the map (probably a nogo)
 not started yet ...
