Facilities

From What The Wiki?!

As core organizers, we will of course make all the necessary arrangements to provide the basics. You know: all the stuff that has to be taken care of long in advance, and that would be really uncomfortable to do without: toilets, showers, various kinds of not-too-expensive food & drinks, a few cozy bars, huge tents for the presentations, the Internet link, the core of the computer network infrastructure, electric power and much, much, much more. As July nears, we'll try to use this site to provide details so you have a better idea of what to expect.

Showers and toilets

Please be assured there will be enough of both. Due to popular demand (and because the location allows for it this time) many toilets will be of the water-flushing kind.

Little note:
Pete (Basil) fixed the showers and will fix other leaks too.

Laundry Service

Laundry service canceled, because the Landrette is closed at saterday and sunday. If you'r able to pick up your clothes at monday, you can drop your clothes betwean 10:00 and 11:00 AM at the infodesk.

Power & Network

We're still making all the arrangements, so please stay tuned for much more information. Until then, you can safely assume there will be a power and network connection somewhere on most fields where you can camp, as well as in the main areas, if you choose to put your computer in (one of?) the larger tents. Popular neighbours are the ones that bring more female than male connectors of any given kind. It's a pretty large place, but we will do our best to provide WaveLan/802.11 coverage everywhere. Be advised that 802.11a (5 GHz) is rumoured to actually work at events like this, whereas 802.11b or 802.11g (2.4 GHz) tends to be, ehm, somewhat overloaded.

If you are using ungrounded power adapters (if you have non-eu-compatible plugs), take care.

EventPhone (Bring your DECT phone)

The great thing about this community is that it is full of people that are very used to providing all sorts of services and facilities for others. And some are damn good at it too! So if you give a crowd of these people the idea that this is about making all of us maximally comfortable, weird things start to happen. EventPhone started out as one of these strange things that just popped out of nowhere. By now they have become a part of the basic infrastructure of any large-scale European hacker event.
Bring any DECT cordless phone that conforms to the GAP standard and come to the POC (Phone Operations Center) to register it. Then use the phone to make internal calls to any other extension for free. No more crazy double roaming charges just to find your friends, no more radio-discipline debates over a few crowded radio channels.
This is by no means a clunky hobby-thing: it's a professional system that boasts a huge internal call capability, and we'll be using it extensively ourselves as a replacement for the two-way radios everyone at events like this walks around with. Your extension may on request also be made reachable from the outside, the access code for this is not yet known, but will be published here. [Click here to register your internal phone number]
