FTHelp

From What The Wiki?!

What is this all about?

At all the previous computer camps and congresses i noted that there are always many people arriving at such an event for the first time not knowing where to go or what to do. Not so many years ago i was one of them... And even now, arriving at a new event always creates this feeling of being lost at first.

So?

So i volunteered to help at the info desk and especially to help out everyone who just arrived at the camp, showing them where to find things, how to get power, net and such. And to help them to secure their computers, show them what protocolls best not to use and so on.

While this may sound a bit strange at first, i noticed that the normal info-desk is normally overloaded with all kinds of stuff, so i intend to help out by being the first-timers FAQ.

So, if you are new to this kind of event, just ask.

Remember, better safe than sorry. If you have any kind of question, just ask. There are no stupid questions!

Why call it "FTHelp"?

Uhm, i'm not very good at coming up with names...

How can i reach you at the camp?

I should be located at or near the InfoDesk. Also, i have registered a Camp-Phone with the extension 4636 (just type I N F O), which hopefully will work.

Do I need to bring a tent and food?

Food will be available through professional caterers. A tent you'll need to bring yourself. There is a very slim chance we'll have a spare tent in which some people who really don't have any camping gear on them can sleep but it would be unwise to make arrangements based on that.

NOTE: It's always a lot easier for all of us to sort out problems beforehand instead of having to sort it out in a hurry when we're already at the camping ground.

Basics

You should at least read the pages on camping, cooking, packing and traveling.

The page from First Aid (CERT) may also give you further information about medical and fire emergencies.
