Cooking

From What The Wiki?!

There will be on-site food available in different styles and reasonable prices (organisation makes sure of that!).

It could be cheaper to make your own food - and more fun!
There is within car driving distance a small town with several supermarkets & Banks that should have ATM's.

Cooking

Stuff you'll want to bring if you plan cooking foryourself:

  • Heat - small gas/solid-fuel stove, BBQ (non-grass killing) or overclocked CPU are usable sources of heat for cooking at WTH. The power grid at WTH may not be able to power any electric hods or microwave ovens you bring. If you're using fuel to cook remember to bring extra. If you need matches, buy the long cooks matches and store them in dry container. If you are unsure which kind of fuel/gas you need, take it to your dealer and ask! There are at least 2 types of gas with different, not interchangeble containers and several liquids you might need depending on your stove.
  • Open campfires and coal BBQs will NOT be allowed at ALL.
This is offical. The local authorities (fire department) did not permit open fire due to the nearby woods and the risk of a forest fire. Electric BBQ's are also not permitted because they draw too much current! Calculate this for yourself if you like.. but we don't have an extra power generator providing another 50K watts for your electric BBQs...
And, if we're putting down rules: please do not sell food (or beverages), we can't allow that either.
  • If you cook inside your tent keep a knife close, if the tent should catch fire it may burn quickly and shrink, so that cutting a hole in the rear would be the only safe escape.
  • Container - to put food or water in that you want to heat, this can be as simple as a shaped sheet of meal, small as a metal mug or as practical as a back-packers preasure cooker.
  • Utensils - Bowl, plate, knifes, fork, spoon, chop-sticks, chopping board, measuring jug & something to poke your food while it cooks. All this is of course optional if you can creative, for exapmle you can scrub a pan using scrunched up foil. If you like Pasta, dont forget the sieve!
  • heat proof mat - something to separate the cooker from the ground so as not to damage the grass or start fires if it's dry! A cork mat should do. Also consider bringing something to shield your cooker from the wind.
  • Eating free - There is no eatable life available in any of the near by waters, so no dynamite fishing. The Netherlands has NO open season for the hunting of sheep, cattle or small dogs. Btw, for fishing you need a permit. (sportvisakte, which is available at the postoffice)
