The Broadcasting Team
We are the ones that will try to record and encode all talks, projects and activities at What The Hack. This time we will not only focus on recording and streaming the talks but also creating a digital archive of the past (for more see the ReHash Village). So if you like to help us record/find/create content email me, we need your help !. So if you are into hightech streaming and recording this is the team, if you just have a videocam and would like to make a report this is your team, If you have or know where to find content of the older events this is your team. If you don't have a camera or any a/v-experience,..this still is your team!
News
Thusdaymorning 9:30am there will be a volunteersmeeting in tent 2. Be there! We'll gather @ ReHash from 8:30 and will move to tent two from there. After this meeting we will walk through all the four stages to explain the setup and equipment. If you want to help us out, today, tomorrow or some other time, make yourself known on the mailinglist, add your name to the volunteerslist at the bottom of this page of put your name on the blank spots in our recording schedule. Thank you!!!
We are pretty much geared up. The main dv cams are available (for the 4 stages); we would not mind a few more. All the stages are ready for broadcast as of now!
Lots of people will bring small (1ccd) cams so that's looking good. We are still trying to get sponsored Apples but the signs are good we will also have enough machines.mailto:ansonr@spruitje.org
For streaming we would have a small team but due to all kinds of things,.....we don't! If you would like to toy around the xs4all streamencoders, please get in touch!. A tent has been arranged. The mailing list is up and running and I'm from now on working fulltime on broadcast/rehash. I've claimed the phonenumbers AVAV and AV00 through AV09 for our DECT phones. if you want one, tell me instead of claiming a new one.
Why do we need you
We need your help badly at the broadcast team, WhatTheHack is slowly turning into such a huge happening that even for you hackers who love to multitask it will simply be impossible to see it all. With over 100 talks in 4 locations, villages, projects and events all over the massive space you simply cannot hack it.
At best you could see maybe 25% of it and you have to be willing to drink alot of Jolt to even reach that level. The only way to make sure you will see it all is to join the broadcast team for a few hours and help us record all sessions and make them available for download with the help of the ReHash Village.
Please give us a few hours of your time if you feel you are handy enough to control a dvcam during one of the talks. We need at least 42 people to make this happen over the four-day period.
The goal is to record all speaker sessions and all villages and events and have them ready for download at the latest within 24 hours after they have been recorded.
Thank you.
Who do we need
Over the 4 days we need about 42 people in total. If you have used a dvcam or have a dvcam or want to use a dvcam to aim at speakers we want you!
We will record in teams of 2 each session using a dvcam. There are 4 stages, which means that we need to record and stream 4 events at the same time. At the end of each speaker session we will hand the tapes to the ReHash Village who will encode each tape within a few hours so people can download the session and rewatch it.
We will also - unlike last time - make sure that all the villages and special events are filmed and we will provide room for you to go out and do small interviews, 5 questions, what do you think about X types of recordings.
- with 4 stages and everybody doing half a day of filming we need 64 people
- with 4 states and everybody doing 1 day of filming we need 32 people
- for encoding we need about 4 people a day so that's also 16 people
So please consider helping us in this massive task of putting all this online for people to
download as soon as possible for the very first time (about 200 hours of video)!
Where will we be
Because of the scale of this operation we will create a homebase for this team in combination with the ReHash Village. It will be located at the lower corner of the A4 field with a direct view to the 4 speaker areas and the rest of the main event field. We will create a hangout of about 10 by 8 meters based on a solid tent. The sides will be opened to extend the tent if the weather allows to create a open space for us to work. Since it will be a nearly 24h/d operation we will do our best to make the place ready for that lights, coffee, places to sit and talk while encoding tapes :)
