15:00 Counter Terrorism in The Netherlands

The Jansen & Jansen firm had a few short films and some interesting information about new Counter Terrorism laws in The Netherlands. It basicly comes down to what we already see happening around us for many years. Because of the ‘Terrorist threat’ people are being fed fear by the governments. With this fear they justify new laws that make our privacy go away.

Some examples: - There is going to be much more power to the information of secret services. So information from secret services could lead directly to convictions. But this information can not be confirmed or backed up. No regulations are in place to watch the watchers.

- Control order: Based on suspision (not conviction) people could be banned from certain places or activities. Like jobs, people, places, etc

- Cutting list: A list with suspected terrorists. Based on suspision (not conviction) people are being cut off from bancing and alike

Also regulations that describe when somebody could be eavesdropped are changes in there advantage. The videos shown in this seminar where interviews that give the same information and idea as above. Please be sure to visit them in the C-tent block and talk about this issues.
