'What The News'
Basic idea is to create a 3-in-1 Info-Portal directly at WTH:
- camp-zine - info for the people at the camp
- outer-world-zine - info for remote hackers around the world and media information
- documentation / archive for future generations (contents will be transfered after the camp)
Note: Developing concept by the mediateam and its partner teams. Bine, Coordinator
Content
- Articles
- Texts on lectures, projects, villages, clustered topics, fun stuff, whatever interesting is happening at the WTH-campsite. Formats and tags such as most recent, top ten, photoalbum, (objective) report, interview, comment/opinion, etc. need to be worked out yet.
- Photos, Audio and Video Files
- In cooperation with the awesome team from the ReHash Village, we have a fileserver available, on which all material will be collected and we will link from our Wiki-News-Page to these files.
- Calendar-Function
- Besides the links for to the program, we provide a forum for all the ad hoc things that will happen at WTH, where announcements can be made. Texts are to be delivered by the village-people or whoever initates some activity.
- Linklist
- We link to external WTH-coverage - newsitems, blogs, HPs - and to relevant ressources for further information.
- Discussion
- to develop ideas from the lectures/workshops/projects further
Organisation of Content
Formats & Tags - structure needs to be thought up. Ideas?
Members: The What The News Mediateam
Basically everbody - all participants, speakers, journalists - is invited to contribute. In order to be able to coordinate our coverage a bit, we need a committed mediateam though. The schedule will be made when the program is fixed and according to the interests/expertise of the teammembers. Please sign up here:

Communications
We still have to come up with a good and clear concept on how to organise the chaos of having everybody contribute in terms of how-to for people and in terms of content. Guiding idea is, that what-the-hackers have a good sense for selfregulation and we ain't need a overly complicated system of rules, nor are we keen on an administrative overload. We need clear and simple guidelines on how everything works.
- Wiki-templates for the news would be great. --eck 23:29, 12 Jul 2005 (CEST)
- We are working on that! Pages currently needing work are:
1. Volunteers Team
- Mailinglist: [Subscribe to WTH Reportersteam Mailinglist]
- Meetings in advance:
1. Meeting: Wednesday, 6 July, 17:00h, WTH-Office, Linnaeusparkweg 98, Amsterdam. There is the possibility for those abroad, to join our meeting via Skype - if you plan on doing so, let Bine know!
The Yup-I-Am-Coming-Wednesday-the-6th-List (Minutes sent out over mailinglist)
- Sanne
2. Meeting: Thursday, 14 July, 18:00h, WTH-Office, Linnaeusparkweg 98, Amsterdam.
Yup-I-Am-Coming-Thursday-the-14th-List:
- Meetings at the WTH-Campsite: once/twice a day. Individual contact: at the Mediadesk (next to and in cooperation with the Infopoint in the What The Hack Bar Tent)
- Online: Web-Interface for signup, schedule who-covers-what, submission of newsitems (yet to be made).
2. Ad hoc contributors
The difference between Mediateam-volunteers and Ad-Hoc-Contributors is simply, that committed team-members are involved in the overall concept of the news-production and are following a schedule that we agree on in our meetings. We are happy for every contribution, but it is important to have a schedule to really produce a documentation of WTH.
- How-to-Guide, Signup, submission of newsitems or calendar-announcements -> all online
- Central point for any personal contact: Mediadesk (next to Infopoint in the What The Bar Tent)
- Who-does-what registration on the Wiki is wished.
- Communication: the How-To on HP, Wiki, in program-folder, announced in breakfast-info, individually at mediadesk.
Tech Solution
- We will use WikiNews for text and selected files. Reason: easy to use and everybody can contribute.
- Tools to upload (a lot of) photos, video and audiofiles onto the WTH-fileserver of ReHash Village to allow a proper and long-lasting documentation. We will link to them from the Wiki.
Networking & Cooperations
- We are cooperating and networking with ReHash Village for fileserver and contentfeeding the archive on WTH, with Radio SubEther for Audiofiles, with Live Streaming for linking. Let's specify the cooperations here in detail. What can we provide, what do we need from each other? ;o)
- We are currently working on the documentary-draft. If you have any useful infromation concerning wth, feel free to participate at the wtm_vidematary-page. It is kinda short atm, but we will work hard to improve it the next couple of days. --Tentron 17 July 2005 22:07 (CEST)
- Bloggers write about whats going on at What The Hack
- IRC Chat about What The Hack
- Flickr group for photos from What The Hack
Brainstorm-Pool
The place for ideas, no matter if they fit in the above concept or not. Revolution! ;o)
Pool of schedule sessions
